interview with Mookie
performing 3 songs LIVE at The SoCal Sound

ALY & AJ IN STUDIO FROM PERFORMANCE
Sister duo Aly & AJ continue to redefine their artistry in an ever-evolving palette of work within the entertainment industry, and they stopped by The SoCal Sound for a conversation with program director and The Drive host Mookie.
From early in teenage years to their latest release, Silver Deliverer, Aly & AJ have shared every stage of life together. Even starting the interview by answering in unison, although they swore, they were going to try their hardest not to. “It’s wild,” AJ reflected, “We started so young, got signed at a really young age, and it’s been an amazing journey. The beauty is that our relationship has never tarnished, which is amazing.”
The duo lends credit to their parents, while moving around frequently, they had been brought back into the entertainment city (Los Angeles) as well as their mother who was an early inspiration. “Music was always in the house,” Aly Shared, “She gave us the confidence to get out there and sing”
Silver Deliverer is an exploration into the deeper depths of sonic landscapes that blends the Laurel/Topanga Canyon textures with pop accessibility. They album was produced by Jonathan Wilson, who is known for working with Father John Misty, Angel Olsen, Dawes, and Grace Cummings.

Mookie asks, “how does one get to work with Jonathan Wilson?” AJ laughs “I literally slid into his DMS. Huge fans. And he responded!” Fans of The SoCal Sound sessions might recall a similar story with Grace Cummings when she was on-air live on More Music In The Morning with Nic Harcourt + Jet
A standout from the session is Aly & AJ’s performance of What it Feels Like, it reflects upon the sisters’ perspectives on navigating as women in adulthood and in the music industry. Aly: “We wanted to write a song for all the women out there going through a moment of change, It doesn’t have to be a negative thing = aging becoming a parent, changing jobs, even divorce - it’s all part of embracing life”
